Our work in Minnetonka Beach with Brick House Architects (interior shown in image above) was featured in the 2015 Midwest Home Luxury Remodeling Tour. This project was a bit unique for us as it was a complete teardown. Here are details from Midwest Home:
Before: The existing home was poorly positioned on the narrow lot, and the layout wasn’t suited for how the homeowners live and entertain. They wanted an open floor plan with views to the lake, a mudroom, sunroom, deck off the kitchen, balcony off the master suite, lower level space for entertaining, more storage and easy access to the garage.
Benefits of a tear down vs. whole-house renovation: There can be fewer unforeseen issues in a teardown, with attractive costs (more bang for your buck).
Challenges: Teardowns in urban areas must be respectful of neighbors’ personal space and blend with the rest of the neighborhood rather than maximizing hardcover and building heights. Municipalities should address design parameters without limiting creativity.
After: It looks like an elegant, charming farmhouse from the outside, but inside this home has every stylish, modern amenity the owners desired.
